Dr. Margot E Wilson

Margot Wilson is an anthropologist who retired from the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada in 2018. Over the past 30+ years, Margot has undertaken anthropological research in South Asia. She has lived in a bamboo hut with no running water or electricity in a rural village in northwest Bangladesh, learning to be a village woman by living as one. She also undertook research at a shelter for abandoned women and children in Dhaka and at the Danish-Bangladesh Leprosy Missions in rural northwest Bangladesh. Margot has published several research papers based on this research along with two books based on women’s narratives.

Since her retirement, Margot’s longstanding interests in gender, personal narrative, and life storytelling have led her to undertake life history research in collaboration with elders in the Canadian and American transgender communities.

In 2017, Margot opened TransGender Publishing and Castle Carrington Publishing (in collaboration with Stephanie Castle). Both companies are now divisions of Perceptions Press, which was originally opened by Stephanie Castle in 1992. In addition to TransGender Publishing and Castle Carrington Publishing, other divisions of Perceptions Press include Stephanie Castle Publications and All Gender's Press.

To date, over 70 fiction and non-fiction books have been published by the divisions of Perceptions Press. Many focus on transgender and LGBTQ+ themes, characters, and authors.
