Lesley Gibbes

Lesley Gibbes grew up in Sydney’s Northern Beaches and Wagga Wagga in country NSW, Australia. She has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Sydney and sixteen years teaching experience in Primary Education specialising in dance, drama, debating and public speaking. She is now an awarded, internationally published author of books for children.

In 2015 Lesley’s picture book Scary Night was awarded Early Childhood Book of the Year, Honour Book by the Children’s Book Council of Australia.

Her other picture books include Little Bear’s First Sleep (CBCA Notable 2017), Bring A Duck, Quick As A Wink Fairy Pink, Fluke (Whitley Award Winner Young Children’s Book 2018, Environment Award shortlisted 2018), Bouncing Bouncing Little Joeys, Cicadas and Three Little Mermaids.

She is also the author of the internationally published chapter book series Fizz, illustrated by Stephen Michael King. The first book in the series, Fizz and the Police Dog Tryouts was awarded CBCA Notable Book for Younger Readers in 2017 and included in the Best Children’s Book of the Year list by Banks Street College, America 2018.

Lesley spends her days reading, writing and mucking about with her two children and naughty Jack Russell Terriers, Porsche and Spotty.
