Mel King is a graduate of Bates College and Harvard Law School. After spending five years as a law professor at a California law school, and over forty-five years as a successful trial attorney, he retired and moved with his wife, Shirley, to the central coast area of the state, with its magnificent scenery, abundant wildlife. At the urging of his wife to get out of the house and take up an avocation or hobby, he turned to writing stories. He recalled many unusual incidents in the lives of famous people that he learned while taking history courses in college, as well as interesting news articles he had read over the years. Realizing that many high school and college graduates lack the knowledge of history, he decided to write about that genre. In doing so, he was inspired by his beautiful wife. The temperate climate of Monterey County, combined with the beautiful and scenic environment, are also deal conditions for inspiring his writings.
