Roselle Thompson

Roselle Thompson has over 27 years of experience in teaching and education development in the UK, from nursery to University levels. An Award Winning Writer, and academic lecturer, Roselle has been creating, since 1994, intensive courses in a number of subjects; including English (language and literature), Verbal Reasoning and Public Speaking for children from as young as 5 years old, to GCSE Secondary and A level 6th Form.

She has had early recognition in writing when she won the coveted Young Black Writers Award in 1981. She writes across various literary genres: producing Poetry, Short Stories, a Play and Children’s non-fiction educational texts: Spelling & Word-Power Skills; Vocabulary Skills for Students & Teachers: English Grammar: A Student’s Companion, with other titles in the series expected.

Roselle has expertise in Caribbean culture, lectures and has written extensively on Caribbean Literature and Caribbean migrant communities in Britain. Her first novel, A Woman of Destiny: A Calypso Novel (2014); the world’s first Calypso novel, suggests there’s a new genre within the Caribbean canon, having done extensive research for a PhD on The Development of Orature: It’s Impact on Anglo-Caribbean Writings. Roselle has written a Caribbean Play: Rufus and the Snake, for performance in the Queen’s Golden Jubilee celebrations in West London. She is passionate about the fusion of genres in Caribbean writings, (which she calls Caribbean Orature, and therefore her academic writings portray the characteristics of Orature, as is seen in her first full-length fiction work, A Woman of Destiny: A Calypso Novel.

Roselle Thompson has undertaken many activities both in and outside of the Caribbean region, advocating and highlighting the essence and importance of understanding Caribbean culture, among Caribbean migrants and their families in the Diaspora.

Ms Thompson was instrumental, with a team of 6, in setting up, running, as well as teaching in the Centre for Caribbean Studies at the University of North London, (at a time when such subjects were not yet vogue within Universities’ Humanities Faculties), where she did both BA Hons in English and Master of Philosophy in Literature.

Roselle organises extra support Tutorials for Undergraduates struggling in their first year at university, as well as all ages of students who need academic tutorial support to enhance school grades and tackle underachievement.

Roselle Thompson is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and as a TV Broadcaster and International Speaker, her approach is therefore to make her significantly accumulated skills available to her students and audiences, for their personal empowerment, development and life-long success.
