A self-taught musician since the age of seven, Frank Berlingeri has been on the road to self-knowledge and discovery ever since. In Lyndhurst High School he was inspired to focus on Fine Art, winning various awards including Best in Show. Meanwhile, he played keyboards in local garage bands. Following a year of state college, Frank dropped out to travel the United States (he had recently read Jack Kerouac’s On the Road) with his best friend. On his arrival home to New Jersey, Frank quickly moved to Manhattan and spent three semesters studying graphic art at New York City’s School of Visual Arts, only to be lured by the growing music scene downtown in the 1970’s. Frank left visual arts in favor of a career in music and began writing lyrics and music in an atmosphere inhabited by Talking Heads, Lou Reed and Patti Smith, gathering with Andy Warhol at Max’s Kansas City and CBGB.
Then came the dark years, when Frank spent less time writing and more on the wrong side of midnight. After years of pain and hard work, Frank, once again, found his muse, producing three CD’s of original songs with a little help from his friends, Joseph DePasquale and Lee Boice. Playing most all the instruments and singing all vocals, Frank also wrote the music and lyrics for two musicals, completed twenty-five novels, while continuing to play live in countless bands.
Frank Berlingeri not only traveled the United States but also much of the world (Europe, Australia), only to find himself back in his childhood home in New Jersey, still teaching himself by taking risks and doing what he loves: creating.
