'Whiskers and Wings' began as a single story for my young grandson, George. It was well received and I embarked on a series of tales that increased the number and developed the characters of the ‘countryside companions’. The first book in the series contains 15 stories.

I changed the series name to 'Whiskers, Wings and Bushy Tails' and further single longer-story books in the series have since been published. These include 'Good Deeds and Evil Intentions', 'Autumn - A Time of Magic', 'Links of Gold', 'Black as Night', 'Blackberry Bluff' and the long-read 'The Mouse That Scored' (available in colour or inexpensively in black and white).

No unhappy endings. Everybody remains friends. Amusing dialogue. Interesting plots. Vocabulary-building. Moral and educational.

'Ninky and Nurdle (Stories from Noodle-Land)' Ninky and Nurdle are two mischievous friends who live in the deep underground passages of Noodle-Land undiscovered by the Humans above them. They are led by The Leader. He is the only one that can give permission for any others to go above ground - or so he thinks! Ninky and Nurdle often have other ideas! Every so often there is an organised HSD (Human Scare Day) when Noodles paint their faces, teeth and hair in bright colours and creep up on unsuspecting Humans...and give them a terrible fright as they extend their hairy finger-claws and bare their sharp teeth and growl. The wetter the weather, the happier they are.

'Granddad Remembers' (but is he telling the truth?)

Granddad enjoys conversations with his grandson, George, who asks a lot of questions and receives a lot of answers...but is Granddad always telling the truth? From playing in the World Cup to running the London Marathon, from juggling in a circus to becoming a marbles champion...Granddad remembers. From the fastest witches' brooms to the largest fish...from a giant who frightens little boys to tea with the King and Queen...Granddad remembers. From a ghost in a dungeon to a fairy at Christmas...from red post boxes to family trees. These are just some of the things that Granddad remembers...but is he always telling the truth?

Henrietta Hedgehog is at her wit’s end!

Her father, Happy Hedgehog has decided to celebrate his birthday by inviting friends to a Summer Fete…but his list of names has grown so long it would fill their little home a hundred times over.

Ollie Owl, Ebenezer Eagle, Percy Pigeon and Richard Robin come forward with ideas (and very wise plans, of course!) to solve the problem…starting with a visit to The Crooked Beak Leisure Club.

When Bad Boy Badger and the Snooty-Ooty Gang hear about the Summer Fete they come up with a dastardly plan to ruin everybody’s evening. A visit to Sticky ‘Fingers’ Stoat becomes necessary.

They discover that their favourite band, Rocky Ram and the Sheepish Singing Sisters, has been booked for the evening’s entertainment and believe they have found a means of listening to them even though they are not invited. They are in for a surprise! The bartender of The Crooked Beak Leisure Club unwittingly causes them a degree of embarrassment.

Meanwhile, Happy Hedgehog falls ill with Spikeyitis and Doctor Deer O’Dear is summoned.

How effective will the doctor’s medicine be?

Happy would dearly like two presents for his birthday.

He would particularly desire one of his daughter’s famous blackberry pies. He would also welcome a book of crossword puzzles (preferably cryptic). SwaggerWagger, the Pekinese Chin dog, and Curly Cat rise to the occasion…much to the chagrin of Ollie Owl!

"GOOD DEEDS and EVIL INTENTIONS" Undermead is under threat of destruction as Bad Boy Badger and his Snooty-Ooty Gang seek revenge for their humiliation at the hands (and feet and bushy tails) of the inhabitants of Undermead the previous winter. A wise plan is needed and who better to create it than Ollie Owl, the wisest owl in the whole world? What will happen when The Scarecrow arrives? Ollie insists that Scarecrows are inanimate objects incapable of speech but is he correct in that assumption? Meanwhile, Oercy Pigeon, a former British 300 Champion, has decided to enter The British Pigeon Poetry and Prose Competition and earn himself a second title. How good is he? Or how bad? You decide!

"BLACK AS NIGHT" finds Ollie Owl, the wisest owl in the whole world, facing an embarrassing situation. His calculations suggest a phenomenon is about to descend on the inhabitants of Undermead. He comes up with a plan. As is often the case, even the best laid plans can go awry. Can Percy Pigeon save the situation? Are his poetic ambitions making progress?

"BLACKBERRY BLUFF" brings Percy Pigeon and Ollie Owl together in a plan to outwit Bad Boy Badger and The Snooty Ooty Gang who intend gathering all the blackberries in Undermead before its inhabitants have the opportunity. The blackberries are desperately needed by Henrietta Hedgehog (blackberry pie-maker extraordinaire), The Home for Elderly and Retired Rodents and The Undermead Charity for Disadvantaged Hedgehogs. Humour, fun and Percy's poetic attempts all feature.

"THE MOUSE THAT SCORED" is over 31,000 words long and over 310 pages. The colour version is...very colourful!

“NINKY and NURDLE” are two mischievous monsters that live below ground in Noodle-Land together with the other Noodles. Their adventures and naughtiness includes leaving home, travelling along underground passages and going above-ground...and frightening the Humans! Nobody gets hurt and the endings are all happy or funny...or both. Amusing dialogue.

“A TWIST IN THE TALE” is a book of stories with unexpected endings (I hope!) but nothing too far-fetched. A pleasant and entertaining read. "STAGE FRIGHT" This story is a work of fiction although the names of several characters and the titles of two plays (‘M or N’ and ‘Murder on The Orient Express’) were created by Agatha Christie. The Simplon Orient Express operated between Istanbul and Calais

Edward Ratchett is murdered by twelve people whilst travelling aboard The Orient Express. Amongst the twelve were a number of women. He was better known as in his home town of Chicago as Lanfranco Cassetti.

‘M’ and ‘N’ are pseudonyms given by British Intelligence to two German spies that operated in Britain during the Second World War. One of them is murdered.

Tommy and Tuppence Beresford are recruited to seek out the spies.

Two people, a man and a woman, each seek revenge.

Agatha Christie’s role in this story is pure invention and a figment of my imagination!
