Katherine Ann Meyer

Katherine Ann Meyer began volunteering at a local historic site when she was nine years old and has been immersed in the world of history ever since. Her love of literature was also ignited at a young age; she grew up in a household where the classics were accessible and beloved. Her favorite childhood book was 'The Secret Garden', and as a teenager she devoured the works of Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, Charles Dickens, and Nathaniel Hawthorne. After graduating from college, Katherine continued her study of 18th- and 19th-century American and British cultural history, and her years of research have given her a unique, in-depth understanding of the people who lived in those eras. This knowledge informs every aspect of her writing.

She is the author of two historical literary fiction novels: 'Grosvenor Square' and 'Nine Miles North'.

“My stories are rather unique in that they truly represent both literary and historical fiction. I want the reader to be completely transported back to the historical period in which the story takes place. That leap into the past happens by immersing the reader into the world inhabited by the characters, not only in terms of the historical setting, but in the language of the era, too. The style in which I write evokes the language of the past, and in that way I pay tribute to all of those classic authors I loved when I was growing up. Additionally, it’s very important to me that the characters in my stories think and behave in ways that are true to the period in which they live; their thoughts and beliefs are informed by the physical, social, and cultural norms of their era, not by our contemporary perspective.”

In addition to being an educator and historian, Katherine enjoys a diverse range of hobbies, including genealogy, theatre, travel, and classic film. She resides with her husband in the beautiful Piedmont region of North Carolina.
