Sylvia Weiss Sinclair is a first generation American on her father’s side; her mother was also born of immigrant parents. She was born in Los Angeles, California and started journaling when she was thirteen years old,continuing throughout her life.In Glendale High School, Sylvia fell in love with Chemistry. She wantedto be like Madame Curie, working in a laboratory. She went on to Glendale College, majoring in Chemistry. In 1966, she applied at a laboratory as a lab assistant, but they were not hiring women. Ten years later, she enrolled in California State University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business. She applied to CPA firms, but they weren't hiring married women with children. After ten years working as an accountant,Sylvia went back to California State University. She earned a Teaching Credential in Secondary Education, teaching in Los Angeles for only one year.
She now lives in Bay Minette, Alabama with her husband Mike and two cats, Peaches and Mikey. Sylvia is member of the the Alabama Writers’ Forum, and the Alabama Writers Conclave. Fledermama’s Son is her first published novel winning the Believe and Achieve Award for Fiction in 2017, based on her travels to Romania. Her second novel published in 2018, Making Raisins Dance, is about teaching junior high science in an inner city school in Los Angeles. She is working on her third novel, The Ghost of Dyas Creek, a southern mystery.
