Karyl E. Ketchum

Karyl E. Ketchum is a Professor and the Department Chair Women, Gender, and Queer Studies at California State University, Fullerton. Her research focuses on visual culture and practices of representation as they rely upon and challenge shifting understandings and experiences of gender, normativity, identity, and the body. She has published work on feminist and queer representations and aesthetics in film and art; racial and gendered biases in biometric technologies; the deployment of ethnicity and gender toward galvanizing and sustaining global online social movements; and pathologizing discourses of the feminized body in art and popular culture. Her most recent book, Gender Diversity and LGBTQ Inclusion in K-12 Schools (July 2018), coauthored with Sharon Chappell and Lisa Richardson, is available through Routledge Press and is a critical first resource for educators interested in creating gender-expansive and welcoming schools and classrooms.
