Armand Kruger is a clinical psychologist, author, coach and trainer having qualified at the University of Pretoria with an MA in 1972. He has worked in a number of countries and made a name for himself both in South Africa and internationally in the NLP (neuro-linguistic-programming) and Neuro-semantic community. He has lectured at university level and has been a preferred consultant to top companies in South Africa. He has consulted in a number of countries, including Austria, USA, UK, Switzerland, Zimbabwe.
From his early days in psychology he has been fascinated by how people do what they do. Therefore, he has spent many years researching and modelling the practice of peak performers in a Business, Sport, Education and family environment. His curiosity with human behavior has always challenged him to ask “what is going on” in the mind of peak performers who have overcome depression, trauma, anger, worries, self-doubt and self-esteem.
By discovering the mental programmes peak performers run, the questions they ask, the solutions they find, the self-talk they engage in and the way they see the world has focused Armand’s thinking on the process of the mind. By being curious and not leaving successful people alone he has been able to find answers to what makes them different to the average person. Through finding the critical success factors of peak performers Armand has studied and researched how transference of these success factors and thinking patterns can be installed in the thinking of non-performers in a variety of contexts.
From a phenomenological perspective Armand strives to hear the heart and mind of and people and offers them the opportunity to test their thinking against themselves in a gentle way. In spite of his rigorous scientific research he is reluctant to theorize about exceptional persons as he prefers a descriptive cluster of methods. Theories in his opinion get in the way of real gems, insights and processes that result in the differences that make a difference. He lives by the motto “don’t take my word for it until you have tested what I say in your own experience” as all people are different, have different contexts and have different experiences.
This book on emotions is about reaching outcomes through processes. In these pages, the how to Achieve Self-Mastery by Learning to Work Safely with Your Anger, Sadness, Worry and Residue of Trauma are eloquently explored and made accessible to the average reader. It is about mastering one’s own emotions in a respectful and constructive way. Each chapter while standing alone, covers anger, worry, sadness, and the residuals of trauma and yet it also contributes to a broader understanding of emotions. Armand helps readers to gain insight into these emotions, the processes through which we create them, the feelings attached to them and the techniques that can be applied in order to master them. In essence he contributes to the understanding and use of the core processes for change using NLP – methodology.
