Richard Varnell

Richard has many years of pastoral experience in California: Blythe (1968-1973), Bloomington (1975-1985), and the church he founded in the Coachella Valley (1985-1998). While he was the interim pastor in Twentynine Palms (2013-2014), the church grew from an attendance of 20 to 75 in 17 months. The Assemblies of God Southern California recognized that same church as the fastest growing church in 2016.

Richard has also served the Southern California Assemblies of God Network as the presbyter and executive presbyter. He is the founding president of the Southern California Assemblies of God Founders Fund, which he served from 1998-2006. As president, he assisted hundreds of people to prepare Christian wills and also brought $45 million in assets under management. Richard continues today as a consultant to pastors and churches.

Richard holds a BA in Religion from Vanguard University of Southern California. He earned the BA equivalent in Business from California State University, San Bernardino. Richard received an MA in Biblical Studies and a DMin in Church Growth from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, Springfield, MO. Richard is also president of Palm Desert Tax which assists individuals and businesses in the preparation of their tax returns.

Richard has been married to Joy Varnell (EdD), for 51 years and they have two grown children and five grandchildren.
