Dorka never thought she would ever use her psychology degree, once she got caught up in the world of media right at the beginning of her university years. For two decades she worked as a TV program editor and a journalist; she had her own TV program and video series. “I was always doing the same thing. I am brave enough to be open and to ask real questions, and as a result, I am often the safety of feelings, desires, and thoughts – in other words, whatever I do, I am a psychologist and a coach.” More recently, Dorka returned to her profession but with a novel approach: “I believe and experience that therapy works best if I don’t see it as being only about my clients. Whatever topics they bring to me, I work on those as well. This doesn’t mean that I make my concerns visible, but if I don’t filter them through myself, I won’t notice my blind spots, and I will be a less efficient therapist. My tool is what I call mirrortherapy: I take the issues raised in a session home with me where I deal with them with the help of sports, breathing exercises, and meditation. By doing this, I am purer and more authentic in the therapist-client relationship. I believe in the strength of acceptance rather than change and I experience how acceptance brings change every day.”
She has 4 sons and 1 daughter.
