James David Jackson (he prefers to be called David) grew up in the Bible Belt of America as a preacher's kid (PK) during the Civil Rights movement and the Cold War. He lived in Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, and Louisiana before graduating, and heading off to college in Arkansas. Earning his Bachelor's degree from Ouachita Baptist University (a third consecutive generation graduate of the school), he went on to complete his Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He earned additional degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary (Th.M.), where he did his thesis for Dr. Bruce Metzger, and from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, where he concentrated his studies on Christian Leadership. He has done additional master's and doctoral level studies at Fuller Theological Seminary and at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
He currently serves as the Church Planting Director/Strategist for the Baptist Convention of New England (an appointed position with the North American Mission Board, SBC). He has previously served in the same position with the Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware, and as the New Work Strategist for the Greater Boston Baptist Association. In these roles, Jackson has given oversight to the planting of over 600 churches to date.
Jackson has pastored churches in Arkansas, California, and Massachusetts, in addition to planting churches in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. He has also served as the interim or intentional transitional pastor in fifteen other locations, from coast to coast. Jackson also started collegiate ministry on two collegiate campuses (one in California and one in Massachusetts).
He is happily married to his lovely, Florida-born wife, Joyce, since 1985. They have three amazing children: Sarah, in New York City, Jonathan and his wife, Emily, in upstate Georgia, and Rebekah, here in Massachusetts. He is an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, and travels the nooks and crannies of New England with regularity.
He can be found online at facebook.com/jdavidjackson, at instagram.com/jdavid_jackson, and at twitter.com/jdavid_jackson.
He anticipates more books coming soon dealing with church planting and transitional, intentional ministry in the near future.
