Matthew Lasley

Matthew Lasley grew up in rural Alaskan community of Central. The town was so small that they did not always have a school, so Matthew spent time between traditional school and homeschooling through the State's correspondence program.

Matthew's family mined for gold near Central as well as in the Klondike. Their operations ranged from large scale to a small family operation. It was hard work, but it was always an adventure.

While life was not always easy, Matthew was able to live the quintessential Alaskan experience mining for gold, owning a dog team, hunting, trapping, fishing and camping in Alaska's wilderness. One of his favorite things to do was to lie in the snow and watch the green pulsing glow of the Northern Lights overhead.

Today, Matthew lives in Anchorage, Alaska where he is an elementary school teacher. He loves to write for children and during the summer months you will find him meandering the local streams panning for gold.
