Dr. Julianne C Corbin

Julianne Corbin, Ph.D., is a Doctor of Clinical Psychology, a New Jersey Licensed Professional Counselor, an NJPLSS‑Certified Pet Loss Counselor, and a published researcher with more than two decades of dedicated clinical practice supporting grieving pet parents. She is deeply committed to bringing visibility, compassion, and clinical understanding to this often‑overlooked area of emotional well‑being.

This upcoming August, Dr. Corbin will present her groundbreaking research on the Human-Animal Bond and Pet Loss at the American Psychological Association (APA) Annual Conference. Her presentation will offer key insights into the lived realities of grieving pet parents and a clinically grounded framework for support. This is a significant step toward integrating companion animal loss into mainstream psychological discourse and recognizing the profound importance of the human–animal bond.

As the founder and clinical director of Pet Loss Support Services of New Jersey, Dr. Corbin has gently walked alongside countless individuals as they navigate one of life’s most tender heartbreaks. Her work is profoundly personal—rooted in her own lived experience of losing beloved companion animals. She understands the unique, often unspoken grief that follows the loss of a pet and how it dramatically reshapes both home and heart. This intimate understanding inspired her current book, And I Love You Still...A Thoughtful Guide and Remembrance Journal for Healing the Loss of a Pet, reflecting her unwavering commitment to providing a compassionate presence and trauma‑informed, evidence‑based care for grieving pet parents.

Dr. Corbin’s 2006 dissertation research remains a foundational contribution to the study of the human–animal bond and companion animal loss. Building on this work, she developed a comprehensive treatment model now regarded as the gold standard in pet bereavement counseling. In addition to her clinical practice, she provides professional training in companion animal loss to mental‑health clinicians, veterinary teams, and animal‑care professionals across the country. She also partners with veterinary hospitals nationwide, offering consultation and support around companion animal grief, the human–animal bond, and end‑of‑life communication.

Dr. Corbin’s expertise in companion animal loss has been featured in numerous publications and interviews, including Woman’s World, where she continues to advocate for greater recognition of the depth and legitimacy of pet loss grief. Through her book, leadership, teaching, and writing, she offers a steady beacon of hope and healing—affirming that every bond is sacred, every heartbreak is worthy of tenderness, and no one should ever have to walk this path alone.
