Kevin Knodell

Kevin is a journalist and author who covers conflict and culture. His career has taken him from the bustling ports of the Arab Gulf, smokey wild fires in the American West, battlefields in Syria and to Hawaii where he currently lives and works as a reporter for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and producer for the podcast Angry Planet.

He has interviewed Navy SEALs, underground hip hop producers, Syrian rebels, anarchists, refugees, cops, pole dancers and politicians. He received the 2021 Military Reporters and Editors Association Award for best overseas coverage for his work in Kirkuk, Iraq as a correspondent for Coffee Or Die Magazine at the onset of the Coronavirus Pandemic.

He is a former a contributor to Playboy Magazine and was a contributing editor at the digital conflict reporting collective War Is Boring, where he did a one year stint coordinating the site's Iraq War field coverage and was the lead writer for the WIB True War Comics series. His work has also appeared at The Daily Beast, Foreign Policy Magazine, Newlines Magazine, Vice, The Nib, McClatchy Newspapers and others.
