Born on the prairies, I moved to Ontario where I entered the University of Toronto first, and then the University of Guelph to complete a Master's degree in Geography.
Subsequently, I worked at Agriculture Canada's Soil Research Institute where I participated in the work of the US/Canada Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement.
I was then employed at the Lands Directorate of Environment Canada to investigate the impact of city dwellers in rural areas. There I drew up publications on the subject.
Two fruitful years were spent in Botswana, Africa, as a District Officer (Lands). Here I was responsible for the development of agriculture, and for improvements in the quasi-urban Kasane-Kazungula Planning Area, where I was based.
After finishing a second Master's degree, focused on community development, I researched and wrote a Canadian Mental Health Association (Ottawa branch) publication about the post-hospitalization satisfaction of consumers of mental health services.
I am now retired, but continue to do research and writing, currently working on a 30 story account of my time in Africa. I reside in Ottawa with my family.
