Bruce Hartley

Bruce Hartley was born in 1955 in the once-small town of Olathe, Kansas, to Francke and Alice Hartley, and grew up working for his father in a retail sewing machine/textiles business. A studious middle child, he was also blessed with a younger brother, Brian, and an older sister, Melinda. After high school, he attended Johnson County Community College, the University of Kansas, and, finally, Rockhurst University, where he ultimately earned (four years of evening classes) his undergraduate degree in business management. In between K.U. and Rockhurst, he found work as a news clerk for The Kansas City Star, and also began a long career in manufacturing, specializing in production planning and inventory management

A veteran of several companies in the Kansas City area, he also spent a year as a missionary in Slovakia, teaching English to middle and high school students. He loves sports, music and children. having spent several years working with youth through either church ministries or else as a "big brother" to preteen boys. In 1999, he wed his lovely wife Shirley, marrying into a ready-made family of three children and (eventually) eight grandchildren! His first book, "God, Are You There?", was published in May of 2018 and he hopes he has a few more books in him.

His passion is to share what he has learned through a 35-year relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and to encourage others to explore that same dynamic with God. "It's the one essential thing we must take hold of in this life," he says. "Nothing, not even our own comfort, is as important as knowing the Lord."
