Luz Villeda’s writing reveals depth. The surface, with all of the familiarities of present life, is lovely in the specifics, the carefully chosen details. There is also the unseen but felt layer, the ever-present but subterranean sense of loss, a distance between now and something given up. And this sense of loss leads to a greater savoring of present gifts. Luz’s poems bring joy and sadness at once, an evocation of something profound and moving.
