Nick de Bois

Broadcaster, Author, Campaigner, Public Speaker. This former MP brings it all together in his latest thriller Fatal Ambition

Nick was born in 1959 into an RAF family. His father served on flying boats during the Second World War, then remained in service until his retirement in 1970. His mother worked as many hours as she could to help keep Nick and his brother Tony at boarding school, which they were both despatched to at the age of eight.

After leaving school Nick attended Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology (now Anglia Ruskin University), where he left in 1981 armed with an HND in business studies and little idea what to do next. Having taken jobs as a trainee betting shop manager, door-to-door salesman, fork-lift driver and bar assistant, he began working for the Advertising Standards Authority as a PR officer in 1982 where he was tasked with naming and shaming offending advertisers who broke their code of advertising. He joined Rapiergroup in 1984 and, thanks to the generous support of his then boss, he acquired the company in 1988.

He became MP for Enfield North in 2010 and served until 2015. Shortly after he worked as Chief of Staff to the then Secretary of State for exiting the EU during the fraught withdrawal agreement negotiations. Nick has four children by his first marriage, Jessica, Laura, Madeleine and Alexander, and presently five grandchildren to whom he has dedicated this novel.

Nick was married again in 2009 to Helen, former financial director at Rapiergroup and now managing director. Helen has two children by her first marriage, Bethany and Matthew. He is currently a regular broadcaster on talkRADIO and Chair of Visit England. His first book, Confessions of a Recovering MP was published by Biteback Publishing in 2018. Fatal Ambition is his first novel.
