David Glynn was born in 1950 and raised in eastern Iowa near the Mississippi River. An artist and writer, he is the second child of ten siblings. A lifelong
outdoorsman and sports enthusiast, his love for skiing brought him west to Colorado where he eventually settled in the old mining town of Ophir at 9,680 feet above sea level. He is the co-founder and former head coach of the Telluride Freestyle Ski Team. He has been a member of the Telluride Ski Patrol and Ski School.
He and his wife Doris have two grown children, Wyatt and Crystal. He is a two-term mayor of Ophir, and former candidate for County Commissioner in San Miguel County.
His love affair with horses, both wild and domestic, has dominated the last many years of his life. He has logged upwards of three hundred days riding with the wild horses found within the pages of this book. He has traveled across eight states researching the plight of the wild horse and has visited many long-term and short-term BLM wild horse facilities, Herd Areas, and HMAs along the way.
He has worked on both sides of the lens with wild horse documentary filmmaker James Anaquad Kleinert. Indeed, there is very little in the wild horse world that he has not experienced first-hand.
David passed away unexpectedly in February 2015, just months before the release of his book. While the physical being of a very admirable advocate is no longer here, David continues his work to relieve the plight of the wild horse through his spirit, teachings, and all his hard work. May his efforts never be forgotten.
“David Glynn has lived, breathed and spent countless hours observing and investigating the plight of America’s Wild Horses. If There Were Courage will give the reader deep insight into the way the West is currently being lost and also into the heart and soul of the last of America’s wild horses.”
-James Anaquad Kleinert, Director of WILD HORSES AND RENEGADES
“My brother Don and I rode with David Glynn among some of the last wild horses living in the United States. They were some of the healthiest, most vibrant and spectacular wild creatures I’ve ever seen. David was so acutely attuned to each band. In this book he highlights the threats the wild horses face and the deception about the reasons for the Bureau of Land Management’s systematic sterilization and round ups.”
–Daryl Hannah, film actress, activist, environmentalist, wild horse advocate
“Simply AMAZING!”
-Ace Kvale, photographer, adventure journalist
“Glynn’s characters are “True West,” and as true to life as the horses themselves. His story unfolds with the grandeur and mystery of the countryside itself.
-Robert Schultheis, author of THE HIDDEN WEST and BONE GAMES
