Mark A. Moore holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public History. He is an ITIL Process Owner for the North Carolina Department of Information Technology. He is the author of "Dead Man's Curve: The Rock 'n' Roll Life of Jan Berry" (McFarland, 2021), which won a Certificate of Merit in the category Best Research in Recorded Rock and Popular Music (ARSC 2022). Mark is currently transcribing and publishing some of Jan Berry's best original music scores from the 1960s, used by Wrecking Crew studio musicians to record the original songs for Jan & Dean (and other artists). Mark's other works include "The Jan & Dean Record" (Foreword by Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, McFarland, 2016), "The Old North State at War: The North Carolina Civil War Atlas (Foreword by Craig Symonds, N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, 2015), and other titles. Mark's book "The Old North State at War" won a Leadership in History Award of Merit (American Association for State and Local History, 2016), and the North Caroliniana Book Award (North Caroliniana Society, Chapel Hill, N.C., 2015). Mark's published articles have appeared in "Dumb Angel" magazine, "Endless Summer Quarterly" magazine, "Hallowed Ground" magazine, the official Jan Berry website, and other outlets. He wrote the liner notes for the Capitol Records digital re-issues of the original Jan & Dean catalog, and the Memorial Edition of Jan Berry's solo album "Second Wave" (Rainbo Records, 2004). Mark also co-wrote the liner notes for Jan & Dean's "Carnival of Sound" (LP & CD, Rhino Handmade, 2010). He served as consulting historian for "Jan & Dean: The Other Beach Boys" (A&E's "Biography," 2002). His original maps and plans have appeared in works of history published by W. W. Norton & Company, Da Capo Press, Savas, Stackpole Books, University of North Carolina Press, University Press of Kentucky, University Press of Kansas, University of Nebraska Press, Kent State University Press, Harlan Davidson, "North & South" Magazine, "Hallowed Ground" Magazine, and many others.
