Leda C. Muir never planned to become an author. For a decade, she has been an online entertainer on sites such as YouTube and Instagram, but at age twenty-two, she started to write. The world in which Mooncallers takes place, Amniven, had simply been an outlet for a long time. She first outlined the history, geography, and politics years ago, in 2012, curled up in a bed, typing away in her phone notes. Nothing came from Amniven until September 19th, 2016.
"Around that time, I felt trapped. I couldn't have been lonelier, and all I wanted to do was escape — but I didn't know to where. I started writing about a character from a game first, but I'd changed so many details that it became its own story.
I remember the morning that I woke up with a song stuck in my head that I hadn't heard for about fifteen years: The Absence of Time by Lisa Gerrard. I listened to it and almost instantly received an image of a man in my head. I quickly drew the concept, and now that man is Ares Lavrenthea, one of the main characters in the Mooncallers series. I wrote him into the world I'd been working on, and that is when I recalled the outlines I'd created in 2012 about Amniven.
I wrote only for myself in the beginning, but when I tried to share my world with close friends, none of them knew what I was talking about. I then decided to publish the book one day so that others could live in Amniven with me. Almost two years later, I have six books planned for the series, the first two books of Mooncallers are for sale, and I've never been happier in my life."
