Melanie C. Gordon

I wrote my first story at the age of four, and never stopped writing. My mama, a master teacher and librarian, helped me transform my stories from thoughts to paper to self-bound storybooks. My first poems were published in the Cripple Creek Review and Interlochen Review, and I was honored to be selected to share my poetry with companies seeking to move to Greenville, South Carolina. I attended a Fine Arts High School, majoring in creative writing, and collaborating with other young artists on projects that combined the talents of actors, visual artists, and musicians.

My writing transitioned from poetry to essays and plays in my young adulthood. I focused on responding to social justice issues, and transforming current events into scenes and plays for middle school theatre students. All of this experience was helpful in writing elementary, middle, and faith-based curriculum.

I am so thankful for parents who recognized my passion for writing, and did so much to support me even when they raised an eyebrow about my creations. Although most of my writing is just for me, writing feeds my soul and keeps me connected to the true needs of the world.
