Eugene Nesmeyanov was born in the seaside town of Liepaja, Latvia, his father being a senior officer of the Soviet Navy (from whom he has inherited an interest in Titanic); his mother was a professional artist and painting teacher. Eugene graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of St. Petersburg State University, and later worked in the State Hermitage Museum.
From 2013 to 2024 he published a total of five books on various aspects of the history of Titanic in Russia, along with a monograph titled "The Titanic Expeditions: Diving to the Queen of the Deep ..." (available in two editions) in the UK.
He has also published articles on Titanic and Admiral Nakhimov across international media, in such popular and scientific journals as The Titanic Commutator, Voyage, The Atlantic Daily Bulletin (in English), Titanic Post (in German), Hydrometeorology and Ecology, Problems of Underwater Archaeology (in Russian), and on the Encyclopedia Titanica website. He has lectured and conducted presentations about Titanic at the headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society in St Petersburg, at the "Scientists against myths" forum in Moscow, and also appeared regularly on radio and TV.
Eugene lives in St Petersburg.
