Former firefighter, trained as a lawyer, award-winning journalist, and university communications leader, Doug Levy advises public safety agencies on how to communicate with their communities better and faster. Among the first to embrace social media as an emergency communications tool, Levy conducts workshops and consults on communications for police, fire, public health and other organizations.

Levy covered science, health, and technology for USA Today during most of the 1990s. He was chief communications officer at Columbia University Medical Center in New York from 2010-2015.

He is admitted to practice law in Maryland but is on inactive status.
