Ola Hossjer

Hello! My name is Ola Hössjer. Although my surname may not sound very Swedish, I am a Swede who lives in a suburb north of Stockholm called Sollentuna. I am a Christian, a proud father of two daughters, and a member of a Pentecostal church, where I serve in the board of elders. I work as a Professor of Mathematical Statistics at Stockholm University, and have a great passion for science. I think science is a great gift from God to mankind, a tool for helping us to administer, take care of and understand a world He created so beautifully.

In my sparetime I write various Christian apologetic articles, and my first book is called "Becoming a Christian". If you are interested in Christian faith, but have not yet made a decision for Jesus, then I believe you would benefit from reading it. In the book I extend ideas of Blaise Pascal, the famous French scientist from the seventeenth century, in order to describe the decision to become a Christian. I argue that this decision has three components; prior belief (a longing for God since childhood), all the evidence for or against Christianity we were exposed to through life, and an act of will to either become a Christian or not. As individuals we weigh evidence and will differently. Some persons take a leap of faith, although they may not yet have full evidence, others want lots of evidence before they are ready to receive Jesus into their lives, whereas a third category of people will not convert, no matter how clearly God manifests Himself to them. However, a life crisis my change our priorities, so that Christianity becomes a viable option. In the book I argue that altough philosophical, theological, and scientific evidence speak in favor of Christianity, we will never be totally convinced by evidence alone - a leap of faith is always required. I also give examples of several persons who very actively made a decision, for or against Christianity. You are most welcome to read the book and give your opinion!

In the following YuoTube recording I summarize the contents of Becoming a Christian: https://youtu.be/ADPSfUFzvGY

Endoresement of J P Moreland (foreword writer, Professor of Philosophy, Biola University, La Mirad, CA): "Pascal' Wager has been a powerful argument to present on behalf of becoming a Christian. Yet in recent years, the argument has been construed in many ways and received much criticism. However, in this book Ola Hössjer clears all this up in an amazing way. Hössjer is a first-rate scholar, and his extensive research and grasp of the issues is evidence on every page. But surprisingly, the text is so clear and the tone so inviting that a broad lay audience can enjoy and learn from this profound book. The unique feature of Becoming a Christian is the way professor Hössjer analyzes our processes of decision, breaks them into decision-making components, and provides powerful support for each component as it relates to the decision to become a Christian. I can think of no better book to give to a thoughtful unbeliever, and Christians will gain much for their own journeys from reading the book. I highly recommend it."

Endorsement of Andy McIntosh (Professor emeritus of Thermodynamics, Unversity of Leeds, UK): "In the book Becoming a Christian, Ola Hössjer skillfully brings together very powerful apologetic arguments to show the overwhelming logic of the Christian faith. Using powerful mathematical analysis Ola lays open the issues in the first part, and, in my view, excels in the central part of the book, in showing evidence for the Christian position philosophically, scientifically, and theologically. Like a diamond, he shows that whatever test you make of the Christian faith, it shines with deep and brilliant hues of truth."
