P. G. Smith

PG Smith has lived a long life and the whole time she's been watching. She has retired from teaching now to write novels. She considers this her fourth life.

In one previous life she was a college professor teaching political philosophy (yes, she is that kind of person) and jurisprudence (surprised you there, right?) at the Univ. of Ky. and City Univ. of New York for 26 years. In those years she published six books with distinguished presses, and innumerable essays and articles in reputable journals, none of which, so far as she can tell, made any difference in the world whatsoever. Is that too high a goal--making a difference? During that time, she watched people and politics, programs and policies come and go, rise and fall, surge and recede. Yet the problems remain. Why? Are we such slow learners? How can so many be so bamboozled for so long by so few?

In a life even before that one she was a single mother with five children living on welfare, an instance of one of those persistent problems. A very different life, different people, different worldviews, especially her own. She wasn't watching as closely then and her view was more restricted, but she still saw a lot that most people don't see. She has lived in very different worlds and like her character Veronica Lamb, she realizes how remote those worlds are from one another and how difficult it is to bridge such chasms. Thaddeus Lamb is her first novel. It is about those chasms. If you would like to know more about PG Smith, check out her website at www.pgsmith-author.com.
