Suzanne Campbell-Jones

For most of her working life Suzanne Campbell-Jones has been a film director, writing and producing documentaries for television. Suzanne started out as an anthropologist and her Ph.D about communities of Roman Catholic nuns was published as 'In Habit'. Another book, Destination Papua New Guinea' took her to almost every province and island of that nation. She made films in many countries on a variety of subjects. Her latest 'Of Oozies and Elephants' featured the working elephants of Myanmar.

It was her father who suggested she make a film to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the ' Battle of Britain'. ITV screened the 75 minute documentary to an audience of 6 million. It gave Suzanne an experience of aerobatics - loop the loop and barrel rolls - all very exciting. Her father left a memoir which forms the primary source of 'No Ordinary Pilot'. Suzanne spent many hours researching in the archives. She visited grass airfields in Normandy, met curators of the Sagan POW museum in Poland and followed the path of prisoners on the run in Germany. She has set her father's experiences in the context of WW2. She wrote it to honour him and share an extraordinary story full of surprises.
