Susmita Barua

Susmita Barua is a Master Coach, Consultant, Contemporary Dharma Teacher and Educator on Bridging Science and Spirit through the Middleway of Mindful-Awareness. She was born in the sixties in Jalpaiguri, India in a minority immigrant Bengali Buddhist family of six settled in Calcutta. She was an observer of life from a very early age and had questions about her Buddhist ancestry, cultural beliefs, gender-caste inequality and economic deprivation of masses in Calcutta and India.

She came to the USA as a graduate student of Geography and Planning in 1985 without forgetting her roots and inner quest. The two cultures with different values clashed in her mind and heart. After a marriage, a degree and a child, she found a job as a Socio-economic Planner for the City. As the only immigrant female of color in her all male job environment in Kentucky, she felt restless, alienated and boxed in. Her two graduate degrees did not prepare her to face a deep inner angst, crisis of identity with a blackhole of no future vision in early 1993.

She had nowhere to turn to but within. This was the begining of her intentional and focused mindful journey without a guide or teacher to find her true purpose and calling in life. Following a deep inquiry, seven month process of deepening calm, presence, insight and supramundane awakening she forged an inner path to meaning, fulfilment, joy, noble life, ethical leadership and freedom. If you are inspired by Buddha to transform your conventional life to a vision of noble life, livelihood and contribution please connect with her at www.susmitabarua.com

She served as the Advisory Director, President and Vice President of educational, cultural and Buddhist non-profits and volunteered for many humanitarian causes including peace and justice, womens' empowerment groups like Linkedin Buddhist Women's Network, interfaith dialogue group, facebook group on mindful economics, and tireless community builder for spiritual activists, ethical change makers and mindful entrepreneurs. She presented papers and led workshops on mindful living on passion, purpose and joy, Buddhist economics, role of women and bhikkhunis in dharma and enlightened society on diverse local, national and international forums. She teaches the intuitive art and science of Awakening by using a dynamic dance between reason and intuition, remembering and wise attention, visionary inquiry, sensing-feeling and emotion, equanimity and transforming the energy of distress and discontent.
