Dawn Compton and Amanda Schrader

We are Dawn Compton and Amanda Schrader, co-founders of Voice for the Silenced, LLC, where our mission is to change the way our culture addresses sexual abuse. We are VICTORS, not VICTIMS, over abuse through Jesus Christ. This is our story.

We are two nurses with an extraordinary story. Before we ever ended up working together, we had met seventeen years prior at a backyard Bible club in rural Mississippi in the summer of 1999. Unbeknownst to us, we would have a similar story as survivors of sexual abuse, a similar desire to one day tell the world, and God had the plan that would bring it all together!

We published our memoir of faith - "Nursing the Wounds," detailing our story as survivors and the unique way that God brought us together, and "Jumping Ship," a one-year journaling devotional.

Dawn is a wife, mother of two girls, entrepreneur, nurse, and author. She developed a love of writing in her youth as a means of escape, which served as an outlet of expression in coping with her abuse and also drew her closer to the Lord. In 2016, she wrote a simple prayer in a Bible study for God to use her story to glorify Him. Later that year, she saw the fruit harvested from a backyard Bible club, seventeen years prior, in her newly formed friendship with Amanda. Nursing the Wounds was born at an unexpected time; however, Dawn found that God had been authoring her story and intricately arranging the details all along to glorify Him in the most amazing way. Dawn has been a registered nurse for sixteen years and holds a master’s degree in nursing. She is active in her church and community, serves as a Life Group leader, enjoys serving on the praise team at her church. She has co-founded a non-profit organization and one day hopes to establish a Child Advocacy Center in the Mississippi county in which she resides.

Amanda is first and foremost a daughter of Christ and enjoys sharing her love for God with everyone she encounters. Amanda is secondly a wife to her soul mate and a mother of her two greatest blessings. She is a licensed practical nurse by trade and plans on furthering her education to facilitate her nursing career; she hopes to become a holistic nurse practitioner one day. While she has always had an appreciation for writing, she never set out to become a writer, but knew the moment when God called her to do so. Since writing "Nursing the Wounds," she has discovered a new passion for advocacy and ministry. Along with Dawn, she has shared her testimony on numerous occasions at different community speaking events and was featured in three episodes of the television show "Painful Issues Saving Special You" out of Memphis, which highlights testimonies of people who have overcome painful issues through Christ. Dawn and Amanda have both fallen in love with advocacy and feels as if advocating for people in a society that has silenced them is one of their greatest obligations. Amanda currently resides in Texas and spends her days caring for her family and homeschooling her eldest son, who was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder. She is currently developing a children's series inspired by her two sons.
