Author, Researcher, Journalist
Christina Leimer has published articles in local, state and national newspapers and magazines on a variety of topics. Her interests are wide ranging but usually explore social, psychological and cultural issues, spirituality, end of life, and the human-natural world connection. For example, she investigated agencies’ responses to environmental damage from oil spills, advances in neonatal technology, humans’ sense of smell, historic cemeteries, how urban parks affect cities, and the role of listening in communication.
Her book, Natural Urges, features first-person stories and essays about following intuition in an analytical, science-based world. The stories she tells about the insights and quandaries it creates are sprinkled with humor and wisdom.
As a researcher in higher education, Christina has published in scholarly journals and edited a book. She holds a Ph.D. in Human and Organizational Systems and graduate and undergraduate degrees in Sociology. In her quest to understand how societies and organizations change, she conducted multiple studies of contemporary American funeral and memorial rites, including the impromptu shrines at the Oklahoma City bombing site. This work has taught her a lot about how people respond to violence and vulnerability. Dedicated to learning and growth, she observes the ways social systems and culture facilitate or inhibit human potential. Her political work is focused on creating a more just and humane society.
Christina combines her love of nature and architecture, amateur photography, and her penchant for reflection, observation, philosophy and stories into original writings she is testing on her website.
