Jerry Tuttle, FCAS, MA is an actuary (insurance mathematician) and an online college math teacher. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in math from Queens College and a Master of Applied Math degree from the University of Virginia. He worked for a number of property-liability insurance companies as an actuary, while earning the insurance designations of Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), and Associate in Reinsurance (ARe). He completed a Master of Arts in educational technology from New Jersey City University and has been an online college math teacher for several colleges for over 10 years. He actively tutors prospective teachers in person for the Praxis Core Math exam.
Jerry is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and American Mathematical Association of Two Year Colleges and several of their state affiliates. He is a frequent speaker at these organizations, speaking on topics such as copyright in math teaching, cartoons in math class, order of operations, and computer simulation. He also speaks to local high schools and colleges about actuarial careers.
He has three sons, none of whom has inherited the math gene.
