John Garteiz

John Garteiz lives with his wife Karen in Munich, Germany. Prior to moving to Germany, he lived and worked in Anchorage, Alaska for thirty years. Working and raising two boys took most of his time although he still managed to run a dozen marathons including Boston, New York, Hawaii, and Seattle, ride his bicycle across the United States, complete the Paris-Brest-Paris bicycle race, complete the Birkebeiner and Engadin ski marathons, and participate in a few Alaska Mountain Wilderness Classics and Arctic Winter Games as a snowshoer and triathlete. Prior to having a family, he participated in other adventures like climbing Mt. McKinley and Mr. Kilimanjaro, completing the 1049 mile Iditarod dog sled race, and kayaking with his father from the source of the Yukon River 700 miles downstream to Dawson City, in the Yukon Territories, Canada. He has several other adventures planned. He is thankful for his good health and constitution and would like to take advantage of these gifts as long as he can.
