Danelle Murray was born on the 10th of September 1983 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Her first book, 'My Dark Country' was published in November of 2017. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Sciences and Social services, specialised in the professional context through the University of South Africa (UNISA). This is an applied Psychology Degree. She enrolled for the degree in 2007 as a method to cope with a personal traumatic experience, when she and her husband were abducted by armed robbers in January of 2007. She believed that by understanding human behaviour, she would be better equipped to overcome the ordeal.
She and her husband are the founders of a non-profit organisation named “Owl Rescue Centre”, which is concerned with the conservation of all owl species in Southern Africa. She is the Communications Director of the organisation, but also has hands-on involvement in the conservation projects and rehabilitation processes of the owls. Numerous articles of hers, on the topic of owls, have been published in various magazines and newspapers.
However, she feels that her most important role in life is to be a good mother to her two beautiful children, Spencer and Rebecca, at the time of publication aged ten and six respectively, who have adopted their unconventional lifestyle in the bush.
