Les W. Lytton

Born in the mile-high city of Denver, Colorado in 1944, Les currently resides in the picturesque mile-high Community of Prescott Valley, Arizona. He is a retired twenty year veteran of the U. S. Navy’s Submarine Service, where he pursued a successful career in computer science. As a youngster, he was severely restricted from outdoor activities by chronic asthma. Because of this and his own natural curiosity, Les developed a strong appreciation for all aspects of nature early in life. During his adolescent years, he was able to overcome his health limitations and immersed himself in all manner of outdoor activities including hiking, camping, rock and mineral collecting, bug collecting, nature photography, and astronomy. In his late teens, Les became an avid technical rock climber, which he expanded underground to include amateur cave exploring, known as spelunking. Over the years, he has spent from hours to week-long expeditions crawling, climbing, and camping in well over 400 caves. Above ground, Les also added the craft of sailing to his bag of skills. In 1989, he and his new bride sailed a 42 foot sloop on a two-week honeymoon cruise, island hopping through the Virgin Islands.

Today, Les lives a peaceful but active life of retirement. The joints are a bit stiff now, so he has tamed his outdoor pursuits to hiking with his Greyhound Pixie, riding his bicycle, nature photography, and delivering Meals on Wheels. He is proud to serve as Finance Officer for the local American Legion post. Oh, and Les never tires of sharing exquisite views of the heavens with all he can persuade to look through the eyepiece of his telescope.

At age 73, Les became a successful author when ‘The Proud Little Ant’ was released for publication.
