David Brisbin

David Brisbin was born in Los Angeles, CA and after graduating twelve years of Catholic education, he entered a Catholic monastic order but left shortly in favor of pursuing music, education, and corporate and marketing communications in somewhat overlapping sequence. Coming full circle to rediscover church in an Evangelical setting, deep theological and existential questions drove him to the study of Christian origins and Hebrew roots as part of his pastoral training. It was in that study and resulting contemplative practice that he found an Eastern, Aramaic Jesus and a faith he’d never considered or knew existed. Teaching and writing about the radical effect of an Aramaic Jesus on personal faith and Christian thought, his first book, The Fifth Way, won the National Christian Writers award for non-fiction, and has been followed with a companion book, several audio series, articles, and hundreds of podcasts. A published writer and songwriter with a song on a Grammy nominated album, Dave holds a BA in English Lit/Creative Writing and a Masters in Divinity. He is currently the teaching pastor at theeffect faith community and recovery ministry and executive director of Encompass Recovery, an addiction treatment center in San Juan Capistrano, CA.
