Bernard Le Boeuf

Bernard Le Boeuf, Emeritus Professor of Biology at the University of California at Santa Cruz, is known for his research on the evolution of social behavior and foraging ecology of marine mammals, and is expert on elephant seals. He has written three books and over 200 research articles on the natural history of these animals. In addition, he has co-edited a book on university/industry relations and written a fictional novella with a conservation theme. Regarding the latter, he says, "After years of writing about the hard facts of science, it was liberating to write fiction. I could make things up!" In his spare time, Le Boeuf makes wine from his own vineyard, enjoys a daily cocktail and fine food, and plays passable golf.
