Irene Ceder Rogers

About the Author

Irene Ceder Rogers was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1935. In 1939-40, her family of six escaped the Nazi regime-Holocaust to Soviet Union. From Ukraine, she escaped to Andijan, Uzbekistan. Tragically, her parents and little sister died from diseases. With the aid of her teenage sister, she survived. She entered an orphanage in Uzbekistan and Poland. After 52 years, she travelled on the Silk Road, Karakoram Highway, through Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kashgar, China, and eventually to Uzbekistan to find the burial place of her parents and sister. She arrived from Israel to New York, through the Nurses Association on exchange visa as a registered surgical operating room nurse. She lived in Berea, Ohio, and currently lives in Northbrook. She was blessed with her husband Gerald, four children and nine grandchildren. Her documents and photographs are shared in the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington and displayed in Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Skokie.
