Meet A. Smith, known as Alley Cat to her family and friends!

The mother of a beautiful six year old autistic daughter, Alley Cat has had to use her imagination to come up with creative ideas to communicate and interact with her child.

Little did she realize at first that her active imagination was creating characters and stories, complete with personalities and entire worlds all their own, until she started writing them down to share with her daughter. By day they lean towards childish entertainment...

But by night, (and when her daughter is at school or with her grandparents) her characters take on a more adult quality and mature story… well, sometimes.

Born in South Carolina and raised on the West Coast, Alley Cat has settled into a small town nestled in the mountains near the Virginia border.

Alley Cat loves trying new things and this shows in her writing! She experiments with different elements and styles pretty regularly so, unlike most authors who have a set way of writing, hers may vary from book to book.

An avid crafter, she uses her ability to help her child’s development… and spoil her. ("What else can you do when a child realizes they can download YouTube videos with things they like? It’s her way of telling me what she wants and I’m not going to ruin this line of communication!")

Alley Cat decided to write for several reasons. She wants her daughter to read books with strong female characters, realistic romance, less porn (or preferably none at all) and more plot. Her family lives by the motto "don't take life too seriously, you'll never get out of it alive" so humor is a must! But another reason is her desire to help bring attention to Autism.

She hopes to bring about a deeper understanding of the spectrum and to show that those with Autism or Aspergers are people, too. They just see things from a different perspective! Though not all of her books will contain a character on the spectrum, you can bet that she will find a way to show her love and support in some way…
