John R. DaSilva

Except for four years of college and two years of internships, John R. DaSilva has spent his entire life in New England. He was raised in Danbury, Connecticut, where he was inspired at a very young age to pursue a career in architecture. Both his first professional and higher education experiences took place while still in high school, as an employee of the architect of his parent’s house and as a summer student at the Columbia University School of Architecture. He went on to receive degrees from the schools of architecture at Princeton, where his honors include Summa Cum Laude, the Grace May Tilton Thesis Prize, and the Alpha Rho Chi Architecture Medal; and at Yale, where his honors include a full year’s advanced standing, the Carroll Meeks Scholarship for outstanding academic performance, and publication of his student work in Retrospecta.

He worked at the offices of major 20th Century architects including Skidmore Owings and Merrill, Venturi Rauch and Scott Brown, and Cesar Pelli and Associates, before moving to Cape Cod with his wife and daughter to become the principal in charge of architectural design for Polhemus Savery DaSilva Architects Builders (PSD), an integrated architecture and construction firm committed to creating thoughtful architectural design and skillfully crafted construction. DaSilva’s highly regarded architecture is inspired by coastal southern New England and has been built across Cape Cod and the Islands as well as elsewhere in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New York—all states in which he is a licensed architect. His residential projects range from custom made furniture to multi-million dollar houses. As Design Principal at PSD, DaSilva is responsible for directing the architectural staff and setting the aesthetic direction for the firm’s work. With a focus on creating designs that are specifically crafted for each client, DaSilva draws on extensive knowledge of both architectural history and intelligent detailing. DaSilva’s writings about architecture have been widely published locally, nationally, and internationally. In 2016, DaSilva was inducted into the New England Design Hall of Fame, recognizing him as one of a select group of residential design leaders in New England.
