Marcello De Michelis

Marcello De Michelis is an accountant and a crime fiction author, but also an athlete: an ITF tennis player and a former basketball player in his youth. He lived in Turin and now lives between Florence and Versilia, where he set his most successful character: Inspector Olivieri, born from his passion for the television series "Inspector Montalbano," created by the genius of Andrea Camilleri.

For years, he wrote purely for pleasure while working as a professional accountant. Then he discovered his true calling: crime fiction.

He explains it himself in his book Autore in Giallo, where he publishes the opening chapters of three mystery novels and tells how they were born.

In 2018, sick at home with the flu, he invented the Commissario Matteo Olivieri - a laid-back, ironic, who leads the small police station in Florida, an imaginary beach town between Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio.

Olivieri was an instant hit with readers who love Commissario Montalbano. Human, lazy, allergic to paperwork and to arriving before 10 a.m., but relentless when it comes to justice.

The series now counts 18 episodes and has surpassed 1 million pages read on Amazon Italy.

For the first time, Marcello has decided to translate the complete Commissario Olivieri Mysteries into American English to introduce his Versilia - not the postcard one, but the real one made of pine forests, closed beach umbrellas, beach clubs, and secrets buried in the sand - to American readers.
