Nicholas Hillman is Director of the SSTAR Lab and Professor of Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The lab was created in 2019 as a first of its kind “research-practice partnership” where Nick and his team of students and researchers work closely with professionals in the financial aid, admissions, and registrar’s offices to help understand and solve problems of practice. In addition to this applied research, Dr. Hillman’s research agenda focuses on how finance, policy, and geography shape educational opportunities. Dr. Hillman is also a Senior Fellow at The Institute for College Access and Success, serves on several academic journal editorial boards, and is a faculty affiliate with UW-Madison’s Institute for Research on Poverty and La Follette School of Public Affairs. Dr. Hillman completed all of his postsecondary education at Indiana University-Bloomington, where he was a McNair Scholar.
