Peter Henderson

Peter Henderson, BSc. PhD.

Peter specializes in long-term population dynamics and the structure of ecological communities. He has worked for over 35 years on the ecology of the Bristol Channel where his team have sampled monthly since 1980 to produce time series abundance data for about 80 species of fish and 30 crustaceans. In addition, he has worked since 1982 on the ecology of Amazonian freshwater systems. He worked on the foundation of the Mamiraua Ecological Reserve, in the Brazilian Amazon, which is one of the largest freshwater reserves in the world. He is a director of Pisces Conservation Ltd., an ecological consultancy specialising in the ecological impacts of power generation and other large industries. In addition to his consultancy work he is a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Zoology, University of Oxford where he lectures on marine ecology, population dynamics and multivariate statistics. He is the author of seven books, including 'Ecological Effects of Electricity Generation, Storage and Use', 'Marine Biology: Concepts and Applications', 'Identification Guide to the Inshore Fish of the British Isles' and, co-authored with Dick Southwood, the 3rd Edition of 'Ecological Methods'.
