Caroline Crow Salmon

Drawing and painting were a focus of Caroline Crow Salmon's childhood and the smell of her mother Marilene's oil paints and turps is a dominant memory. Her grandmother Amy Crow was a writer and Caroline remembers days in her teens, on the end of her grandmother's bed, listening to her read her days work. After graduating as a teacher, Caroline was posted to Port Hedland and discovered the beauty and freedom of being in open land in the North West, seeing and breathing as far as you can see. Art called again and she achieved a Bachelor of Visual Arts at The University of Sydney before returning to W.A. Craving open space and nature, Caroline and her husband bought 15 acres in Jurien Bay filled with wildflowers and beautiful birds. The flora and fauna has inspired her artworks and now her writing. With two young daughters constantly wearing Batman outfits and asking where were all the girl heroes, the beauty of the birds began to inspire a heroine. Mavis: A Genuine Heroine!
