Anthea Boylston worked for over 20 years at the University of Bradford as an archaeologist specialising in the study of human remains, writing reports and teaching students. During that time she co-edited two books, 'Blood Red Roses' and 'Lepers Outside the Gate'. Since her retirement in 2011 she has become increasingly interested in family history and in particular collaborating with her second cousin, Penelope Forrest, in publishing the letters between their mutual great-grandfather and his parents in Madeira. This resulted in a volume entitled 'A Shoebox of Letters' published privately in 2015. These letters are summarised in her most recent volume, co-authored with Penelope, entitled 'The Phelps Family and the Wine Trade in 19th Century Madeira.
