Ramu Upadhaya (aka Upadhyay R) is an Indian fiction writer.
He was born in 1965 to Pitambar and Nandakala (Bawni) Upadhayas, a Nepali speaking couple, from the North Cachar Hills district (now Dima Hasao), Assam. His late father was in the Northeast Frontier Railway service and mother, a homemaker, at the Nepalis' hamlet, Bhanjang (also known as Bhunjung) Basti, via Mahadev Tilla: Haflong, Assam. He is a graduate of Gauhati University, India. Before publishing seven titles, he tried his hand at journalism, for he had undergone professional courses in Public Relations and Journalism.
