Dr. Robin LaBarbera is a professor in the School of Education at Biola University, where she is the director of the special education credential program, which she helped found. She has published numerous articles in the field of special education, she co-authored a curriculum for students’ English language development, and she has presented at conferences and teacher development workshops around the world, in countries such as Papua New Guinea, Uganda, South Africa, Vietnam, Lebanon, and India.
Dr. LaBarbera's first textbook, Educating Students With Autism Spectrum Disorders: Partnering With Families for Positive Outcomes, is available from Sage Publishers and also for sale on Amazon.
Dr. LaBarbera serves on several Boards of Directors for school programs for students with learning differences, for charter schools, and for a foundation that helps strengthen urban ministry organizations. She is a reviewer for the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, and she is a peer-reviewer for several academic journals and a book publisher.
Her proudest role is that of an advocate for individuals with learning differences and their families. She feels fortunate to have met these families and the professionals in the schools worldwide who strive to meet the unique needs of their students.
When she is not writing (her first love) or teaching, Robin and her husband, Carl, like to hang out with their two grandchildren, work out, run, cycle, row, scuba, and travel. Recent claims to fame include winning a dance contest/hospital fundraiser and climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro.
