Since we’re talking about Maximo, and for some our livelihood, I’d like to share some perspectives acquired after many years in the field. There are actually two universes: (1) the designer/creators asset management software, and (2) reliability professionals. The implementation team creates training plans which illustrate how the product is navigated, whereas, the reliability engineers focus on techniques to improve asset performance, reliability, and availability. I also think the reliability professionals would be fine with any CMMS product as long as the right strategies were in place and continuous improvement was being made. More importantly, I believe it would benefit both sides if we could make these two distinct universes more in synch.

I specialize in bringing these two worlds together. On the surface they may seem to use the same acronyms but underneath, their language is different. I never felt comfortable starting out solely as a software consultant and not really knowing why this data was needed, or how it would be used. The savvy plant manager, maintenance manager and engineering manager want someone who knows both the product -- and -- world-class practices. Plus, they want someone who can explain clearly complex subjects and motivate staff. Therein, I have spent last 3 decades studying, listening and documenting best practices. This is the knowledge I want to share.
