Sheryl Marks

Sheryl grew up with four passions, children, animals, travel and a desire to write. So it’s no surprise that her first book is about children and animals.

It is also no surprise that the characters she features in her “What Shall I Do?” series include the friendly faces of the animals of Africa. She was born in Zambia and as a child moved to Zimbabwe. There she enjoyed a childhood that included many visits to the great game reserves and family trips across plains and mountains rich in wildlife.

Sheryl became a teacher and spent 21 years sharing her stories with her captive 5 to 7 year old audiences! Her own 2 children were raised on her stories - there was always one ready to teach about good winning over evil or fibs being found out!

She emigrated with her family to New Zealand in 2001, when she took a change of direction in the employment field - and got a job as a graphic designer. But with so many places still to visit, she recently decided that it was time to stop working for other people (at last!) and concentrate on what she really wanted to do - write.

So after (successfully) persuading her husband that she needed a teeny tiny computer with loads of umph, she took the plunge and she and her husband are now commuting between Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand - and she is able to devote time to writing.

Sheryl also trained and worked as a designer and fabricator. Her latest toy is a laser cutting machine and when she is not writing she spends time designing and producing unique wall clocks and other wood and acrylic products.

Her family now includes two cats, a parrot and a flock of free range hens. No lions, tigers or elephants but there are plenty of those and other wild animals in the two books she has written so far. And there will be more in the future.
